Modak (Ukadiche)

Ukadiche Modak is a traditional Maharashtrian steamed sweet dish offered to lord Ganesha on the Occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi festival.



Preparation Time - 10 mins
Cooking Time - 20 mins
Total Time - 30 mins

Ingredients:

For Stuffing-
1/2 cup Jaggery  (Gud)
1 cup grated coconut
1/4 tbsp cardamom powder

For Dough -
1 cup water
1/4 tbsp salt
1/2 tbsp Ghee
1 cup Rice Flour

Recipe :
  1. Take a kadhai, add Jaggery, coconut and stir it on low flame for 5 mins. Keep stirring continuously else the coconut might stick onto the base.
  2. After 5 mins add cardamon powder and mix well for 1 min. Keep the stuffing aside and allow it to cool.
  3. Now take another Kadhai and boil 1 cup water, 1/4 tbsp salt, 1/2 tbsp Ghee. Now add 1 cup rice flour and mix well, keep kneading the dough when its hot, knead it with your hand.
  4. You can sprinkle some water if required.
  5.  Take small portion of dough, slowly press edges till it forms a cup shape, now add the stuffing into it. get the pleated together to form a bundle.
  6. Close the Top by pinching and make it pointed.
  7. Now place the Modak in steamer leaving some gaps in between. Cover the steamer and cook the Modak for 10 mins.
  8. Finally Pour Ghee on top of it and offer them to Lord Ganesha !!
